MRA Consulting Group leads the industry into ‘Zero Carbon’

MRA Consulting Group (MRA) is proud to announce that it has successfully helped clients gain six abatement contracts with the Australia Government in the third Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF), which took place on the 27th and 28th of April. These projects will consequently allow the creation and trading of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for each tonne of emissions reductions achieved. The methods chosen for the projects that have gained approval follow the landfill gas combustion method and source separated organics method.
The highly competitive third Emissions Reduction Fund auction awarded 73 carbon abatement contracts to 33 contractors. These contracts secure the delivery of 50.5 million tonnes of abatement at an average price of $10.23 per tonne of abatement.
To date, the combination of the last three auctions has awarded 309 contracts worth 143 million tonnes of abatement. The landfill and waste sector represents the second largest method right after the vegetation method, with 21.8 million tonnes of abatement awarded. The third auction has particularly been a success for the waste industry. The Clean Energy Regulator has awarded 1.6 million tonnes of abatement in contracts to the waste industry, accepting 10 bids from a total of 15 bids.
In the third round, MRA assisted Kimbriki Resource Recovery Facility, Shellharbour City Council, Bass Coast Council, Eurobodalla Shire Council and MRA’s own aggregated landfill gas project, all of which have been successful projects, and secured 6 abatement contracts equivalent to the delivery of a total of almost 300,000 ACCUs.
These projects will divert source-separated eligible organic waste from landfill by sending this specific waste stream to a composting facility, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions avoidance. Abatement will also be delivered by capturing and combusting landfill gas at Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot (Shellharbour City Council), Brou’s landfill facility (Eurobodalla Council) and by aggregating abatement through various landfill gas projects across NSW.
In addition, MRA has established itself as an aggregator to facilitate dealings with the Clean Energy Regulator. We are the first and only waste consultancy in Australia to do so. We are fully committed to ensuring that the waste industry remains a leading force in the ERF.
