The New South Wales Government recently passed the Protection of the Environment Legislation Amendment (FOGO Recycling) Act 2025, taking a big step toward a circular economy.
The FOGO Recycling Act summarised in the cheat sheets below, is backed by a $81 Million funding Commitment and requires all Councils to offer a Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) service by 2030. Certain businesses, including supermarkets, cafes, universities, and hospitals, are required to have a food waste collection service, with a staged implementation beginning in 2026.
