The NSW EPA has opened round 2 of its $3M Organics Market Development grants under the NSW Government Waste Less Recycle More initiative (WLRM). The new grants support activities that will improve the demand for recycled organics.

Albury City Council was recognised for its considerable achievements in implementing a FOGO service for residents in Albury and neighbouring councils at the NSW Australian Organics Recycling Association (AORA) Annual awards ceremony on Friday 10 November.

The NSW EPA has released its first round of Food Donation Education grants under the $337 million NSW Government Waste Less Recycle More initiative (WLRM). The new grants are open to councils, NGOs, community groups and NFPs. They offer funding to deliver projects that increase the efficiency and capacity of food relief organisations to collect and redistribute high-quality surplus food, to reduce the amount of organic material going to landfill.

When developed alongside strong recycling and organics processing systems, Energy from Waste (EfW) will help lift domestic and commercial diversion rates from 60% to 80-90%. It is an important element in a waste management system.

Australia has a significant and growing challenge in how it manages its waste. Tonnages continue to grow by a compound annual growth rate of 6.2%, six times faster than population growth, and 2.5 times faster than GDP growth. Landfill costs are increasing due to landfill levies and landfill scarcity.

The NSW EPA has released the fifth round of the Organics Infrastructure (Large and Small) Program grant under the $337 million Waste Less Recycle More Initiative, 2014-17 (WLRM) extension. The new grants aim to help local councils, businesses, government institutions, not for profits, and industry organisations, depending on the type of grant project/stream.
