Position Vacant – Senior Consultant (Organics Team)

The position

We are looking for an excellent Senior Consultant to join our Organics team in Sydney. Candidates should have a strong and genuine interest in the waste and recycling industry in Australia, with a focus on organics and preferably work experience in waste or with an environmental scientist, agriculture, or soil science background. 

What you can expect

Your work will support MRA’s dynamic and multidisciplinary team of professionals, including engineers, scientists, economists, planners, lawyers, social scientists and educators in the delivery of quality project outcomes for our clients. You can expect to be working in a team on projects for the private and the government sectors. You can expect to independently manage and deliver projects including stakeholder management, data collection and analysis, reporting and client liaising. 

You can also expect to be challenged – we work in a fast-paced environment and often there are many balls to juggle. You need to be resilient, flexible and able to prioritise and multitask as the role entails. The role will involve site work, occasional travel and on occasion, irregular hours.

About you

  • Bachelors or Master in Engineering, Science, Environmental Sciences/Management or other relevant degree
  • Minimum of 5 yrs. experience in consulting or the waste and resource recovery, organics or agriculture/ soils industry
  • Ability to provide technical direction, project management and project delivery across the following areas:
    • Food and garden organics collection and processing strategies
    • Waste contracts
    • Technology reviews for organics infrastructure
    • Feasibility studies and options analyses
    • Market assessments
    • Education and engagement
    • Waste auditing
  • Experience in bid and tender submissions
  • Experience in sustainability and waste management and resource recovery, with a preference for candidates with organics experience
  • A sound working knowledge of local government waste management and resource recovery and the ability to contribute to strategic activities
  • Profound and professional communication skills
  • Very strong report writing skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel)
  • Understanding of statistical analysis
  • Ability to work in an innovative manner 
  • Excellent time management and prioritising skills
  • Practical, client focused and highly motivated

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Project managing small to medium projects
  • Assisting project managers in:
    • Managing small, medium and large projects
    • Managing and compiling tenders and proposals for future work
    • Preparing high quality reports for internal cross-discipline projects and for external clients on time and within budget
    • Research (e.g. into legislation, waste management, site characteristics or management of potential impacts)
    • Technical leadership and mentoring of junior team members
  • Working with the broader MRA team to assist with:
    • time-sensitive projects or proposals
    • research and business development for waste and recycling.

    • Use your project work as an opportunity to develop a sound understanding of the waste industry (through background reading, reading current publications, attending relevant seminars etc.)
    • Attend team meetings
    • Ensure you have the information you require to undertake any work given to you and to inform the project  manager or business director where you are unsure
    • To show a positive attitude to taking on work
    • Work independently on tasks
    • Self-starter and enthusiastic to learn
    • Be actively involved in the industry
