NSW WLRM Major Resource Recovery Infrastructure (MRRI) Grants Now Open

The NSW EPA has opened the fourth round of its Major Resource Recovery Infrastructure (MRRI) grants under the $337 million NSW Government Waste Less Recycle More initiative (WLRM). The grants offer funding to deliver new infrastructure projects in NSW, with the aim of increasing diversion from landfill.

The NSW EPA has opened the fourth round of its Major Resource Recovery Infrastructure (MRRI) grants under the $337 million NSW Government Waste Less Recycle More initiative (WLRM).

Applications close Tusday 27 August 2019.

The grants, open to councils, groups of councils, not-for-profits, NGOs, state government entities and the private sector, offer funding to deliver new infrastructure projects in NSW, with the aim of increasing diversion from landfill. Details of the grant funding are summarised below:

New, or major additions to, infrastructure that recycles additional material. Projects must be commissioned by June 2022.

Priorities:
– Recovery of recyclables from sorted/unsorted waste from business and households;
– Reuse, recycling and reprocessing of recyclable materials;
– Processing, stabilisation and energy recovery* from residual waste.
$1 million to $5 million, 50% of capital costs for private industry and NFPs/NGOs
$1 million to $10 million, 50% of capital costs for NSW councils, groups of councils

What will be funded?
Construction of facilities, sheds, buildings, civil works, planning approvals, variations to EPL.

What will not be funded?
Facilities for food/garden organics**, land acquisition, venture capital, operational expenses, works already completed or commenced, new facilities that do not divert additional waste from landfill.

* Proposals involving Energy from Waste (EfW) technology need to provide details that confirm compliance with the NSW EfW Policy.

** Applcations for the Organics Infrastructure (Large and Small) Round 7 grants will close on 29 August 2019.
